Islamic Art & Architecture

Adela Foo studies Islamic art and architecture, with a particular focus on the Islamic arts of the book. Her research interests include exploring the networks of encounter and exchange between East Asia and the Persianate world during the early modern period and investigating the potential role of Chinese philosophy and aesthetic theories on the rendering of perspective in Persian paintings from the 11th to 15th centuries. Adela was awarded the Ralph Pinder-Wilson Travel Award (SOAS) to conduct research at the Topkapi Palace Museum in Istanbul (Turkey) for her MA dissertation.

Prior to coming to Yale, Adela received her MA (Distinction) in the History of Art and Architecture of the Islamic Middle East from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London, and her BA in Classics and Middle Eastern Studies from Bard College.
