Laura Phillips has curated an extensive digital exhibition on medical astrology
Recent Ph.D. graduate Laura Phillips has curated an extensive digital exhibition on medical astrology. Medical Astrology: Science, Art, and Influence in early-modern Europe explores the visual history of medical astrology through the spectacular holdings of the& Medical Historical Library at the Harvey Cushing/John Hay Whitney Medical Library. Featuring nearly 200 images from this archive, the exhibition tells the story of a controversial yet popular healing practice that “represented the epitome of exact science” for its time. The exhibition demonstrates that medical astrology was widely practiced in Europe between the fifteenth and seventeenth centuries. Part art, part science, it was integral to several fields of study, linking medicine to natural philosophy, mathematics, and astronomy, among others. The exhibition can be viewed online at https://onlineexhibits.library.yale.edu/s/medicalastrology/page/introduction
