Eruptions of Alterity: Lacan on Hallucination and Epiphany

Tuesday, February 17, 2026 - 4:00pm
Loria Center, Room 351

Drawing on his recent book, Far Calls: On Omens, Slips & Epiphanies, Daniel Heller-Roazen (Princeton University) will explore some of Lacan’s shifting treatments of “imposed words” (paroles imposées), from the phenomenology and psychiatry of voice hearing and auditory hallucination to his own theory of the “unchained signifier,” in which speakers – in shock, terror or inspiration – are confronted with the “sudden emergence of total strangeness.”
