Enjoy a concert and lecture celebrating the relationship between art and music in Britain, from the age of William Hogarth and The Beggar’s Opera to the opening of the Crystal Palace in 1851. This was the era of the industrial revolution, which transformed British society, a moment when the love of nature was heightened by a sense of its vulnerability to change and destruction.

Performance by Lucy Fitz Gibbon (soprano) and Ryan McCullough (piano) with an introduction and remarks by Tim Barringer, Paul Mellon Professor of the History of Art, Yale University.
