Katherine Werwie

Katherine Werwie specializes in the Romanesque and Gothic sculpture of Western Europe. Her work focuses on embodied interactions with sculpture, spatial formulations of ritual, and the use and materiality of the medium of wood. She is currently writing a dissertation on the historiated wooden doors that survive in medieval European churches. Katherine received a B.A. in Art History from Barnard College followed by an M.Phil in the History of Art from the University of Cambridge. Before coming to Yale, Katherine served as Kress Interpretive Fellow at the Worcester Art Museum where she oversaw the reinstallation of the museum’s collection of medieval art. She has also worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Cloisters, the Morgan Library, and several of Yale’s collections.
