Soffia Gunnarsdottir

Soffia Gunnarsdottir studies Ancient Art and Architecture, specializing in the visual and material culture of ancient Greece. She received her M.A. in Art History from the University of Toronto and her B.A. in Classical Studies from Hamilton College. In her research, Soffia focuses on how making and viewing art could prompt religious experiences and define conceptions of the gods. She is also interested in ancient healing and medicine; mining and manual labor; as well as historiography. Currently she is writing her dissertation on approaches to votive ceramic vessels from the archaic and classical periods. In the spring of 2022 she taught an undergraduate seminar in the History of Art department titled “Myth, Magic, and Spectacle in Ancient Greek Sanctuaries.”
