Judith Stapleton

Judith Stapleton works on British and Irish art in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Her dissertation focuses on the Irish painter William Orpen, exploring his role in the development of Irish and British modernism at the turn of the twentieth century. 

Judith received her bachelor’s degree from Franklin & Marshall College and her master’s degree from the University of Bristol, where she was a Fulbright fellow. She was the co-curator of Unto this Last: Two Hundred Years of John Ruskin at the Yale Center for British Art in 2019 and at the Watts Gallery in Sussex in 2020. She co-authored the accompanying exhibition catalogue, published by the Yale Center for British Art in association with Yale University Press. She was also the curator of An Indelible Mark: British Art of the First World War at the Yale Center for British Art and The Lay of the Land: Visions of America at the Phillips Museum of Art in Pennsylvania. 

She is currently the Donald & Marilyn Keough Curatorial Fellow at the Snite Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame where she works on Irish painting and the work of Walter Osborne.
