Lillian Sellati

Lilly Sellati specializes in Hellenistic, Roman, and early Buddhist art.  Her scholarship analyzes transcultural interactions within religious sanctuaries on the ancient silk routes.  As part of this research, she recontextualizes ancient artworks as material objects that functioned within discrete architectural spaces and in relation to multiple socio-cultural frameworks.  She also explores how early modern receptions of Gandharan art affect current scholarship/exhibitions and public opinion in North America, Europe and Asia.  key interests: transculturality, materiality, place-making, reception studies, museum studies

Lilly received her BA in Classical Civilizations with a minor in Anthropology from Cornell University.
