Julia Lum is a sixth-year PhD candidate whose research examines the role of art in Britain’s encounter with the Pacific, focusing on the impact of Indigenous spiritual, spatial and material conceptions of land in the development of early colonial landscape art in Australia, New Zealand, and Tahiti. From 2011 to 2015, Julia was the recipient a doctoral fellowship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. She is currently completing her research with a fellowship from the Paul Mellon Centre, London, and a Pre-Doctoral fellowship at the Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles (2016-2017).
